This is an amazing book. I became engrossed in all of the details about the last 24 hours of Lincoln's life. I had to prepare myself for the moment that the shooting took place and a part of me wanted to warn Lincoln of what was going to happen. I became nervous and agitated at that critical moment. The book was outstanding.

The Day Lincoln Was Shot Jim Bishop 9780517446492 Books Reviews

A well written account of Lincoln's last day alive and the activities of Booth and his co-conspiritors. Very interesting for history lovers. Well written.
A friend from high school fifty-plus years ago loved this book. For some reason, I just got around to reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wish history had been taught back then using books like this instead of boring books that were mainly names and dates without the background and drama attached to the events.
In this book Jim Bishop does an hour by hour telling of the events leading up to, including, and after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. It is quite readable and is history brought to life. I did find myself at odds with the author over his assertion that the man shot at the farm was John Wilkes Booth. Recent evidence seems to run contrary to this, but at the time the book was written, this evidence was not known. Still, it's a great book, and I highly recommend it
Jim Bishop Brings One Of The Hardest Times For America As A Whole, To The Reader In An Hour By Hour Account, As Only He Could Do!! It Gives Accurate Accounts, And Backgrounds To The Events As They Unfold.. Would Highly Recommend!!
Disappointing. Never really got a sense of being there. Should have been more detailed and more dramatic. Again’ a let down.
Mr. Bishop is a clever writer with a touch of the poet in his work. He is a brilliant researcher and forces the reader to understand and grieve for every moment and every event that changed history and inflicted wounds on the nation that have yet to heal.
This was a subject that I really did not want to read about--I thought it would be terribly boring. But the way the author organized the book, and really brought out Lincoln's personality, made this a book that I couldn't put down. Even though you know how it ends, it still keeps you in suspense.
