I found The Seduction of Emily to be an enjoyable read. It was nice to step outside of the normal format we usually find with the genre.*Spoiler Alert*
I feel there were a few tiny issues that could have made this a 5 Star Review. I found it odd that no one ever considered or discussed methods to get around the marriage clause in the contract. If I had been in the same situation, it would have been my main train of thought. I would have been looking for loopholes. Even if they came to the conclusion that it was airtight, it would have been nice if someone had at least considered it.
At the end, I simply did not buy that Emily had forgotten that the business was hers. Again, that would have been in my mind immediately in those circumstances.
My biggest issue, however, was with Will's "profession". At no point was it discussed or delved into enough to show he was REFORMED. It was simply assumed that he had given that life up and was prepared to no longer live the life of a con. Considering this is one of the main things that made the story different from most Historicals on the market, it was a missed opportunity that stood out like a sore thumb.

The Seduction of Emily edition by Rachel Brimble Romance eBooks Reviews
I liked the Emily/Nicholas/Will triangle. I was a little confused in the beginning as to why Will hated Nicholas so much and wanted revenge. I think knowing about Will 's mother earlier in the story would have helped me. I just couldn't believe Nicholas was so nasty and nobody knew it. I kept hoping Emily wasn't so upstanding when it came to family that she would stay with him. I'm glad Will convinced her that she needed to leave Nicholas. I was a bit surprised to read "piece of @&!#" in this historical fiction. I don't know that they truly talked that way. That and other dialogue sometimes made me feel I was reading contemporary fiction instead. That's the reason I gave this four stars.
4.5 stars!
It's been awhile since a historical romance grabbed my attention like this one did.
Ms. Brimble created a great character in Emily - a woman torn by her inner desire to be MORE than society allowed during that time. A great plot along with a memorable supporting cast makes this a book well worth the read.
Looking forward to reading more of her works!
Nicholas, a wealthy business owner is betrothed to Emily( father part owner of same company and on his deathbed). Enter a Will, son of a prostitute looking for revenge for his mothers death. Will is bewitched by Emily and tries to find a way to release Emily from her betrothal to a man who has done aweful things to women, one of whom was Wills mother. How can he accomplish this on the testimony of a bastard, whores, and a mistress against a wealthy business man? How will he be able to support Emily, the love of his life! He has no money, and less prestige. This is a fascinating read with a different twist than usual regency books
A very nice historical romance. Good conquers over the evil of Nicholas, Emily's betrothed finance. An arrange marriage agreed by two friends who created a business that their children should marry to keep the business as a family heritage. Finding faults and flaws as the wedding looms closer, Emily is swept up in the deception and horror her fiancé has kept from her. A hero comes to expose the deception of Nichols life style and falls in love with Emily.
Emily seems doomed to marry an abuser under the terms of an agreement made between her dying gather and his dead partner to have their children marry and keep their business intact. Unfortunately/fortunately a handsome man enters the picture who is going to fight for, and protect, Emily from, the abuser. This story follows as Emily tries to stay with her conscience and honor the agreement because not to would give the entire business to the abuser. What is she to do? Is there any solution? Will she eventually be with the man she really loves? Lots of action in this one.
This is not the typical historical Novel, in this there are no Nobelman, no Dukes and such. It has 2 Tabacco Company owners children who are contracted to marry and inherit the business.
It deals with Rape, and abuse. Emily kept over looking the evil in the man she was suppose to marry, just so she could keep a part of her fathers company. Even when he nearly raped her, slapped her, and tossed her on the ground, treated her like crap.
I found this extremely frustrating as she's a smart woman not easily led astray. She's strong enough to stand up for herself so it's hard to reconcile her strength with her martyrdom, especially since her father was willing to let her back out of the contract.
This is the reason I did not give it 5 stars... But I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it...
I loved the hero WiLL, even tho he really didn't have his plan very well put together as how to destroy the man who beat his mother and left her for dead.
The romance is good, and a good cast of characters...
Happy Reading Ya'll..........
This book was a well written and well edited Victorian romance with an original plot and interesting characters. I liked the heroine and her spirit and the hero's search for justice. While I liked the idea of the villain's comeuppance, I had a difficult time believing that prior to 1900, the word of women who lacked social status and a man of questionable background would be taken by the law over that of a man of property and wealth. There is a sexual scene in this book and some violence. Overall a solid story and an interesting tale.
Heat factor moderate.
