Hollywood Hills Aimee Friedman Books
This is the only one of the Holly and Alexa series that I've read, but I loved it. Holly and Alexa take a last minute, whirl wind trip to LA from New Jersey to go to a celebrity wedding that ends up being life changing. They are at a turning point in their lives -- almost adults -- figuring out where they are headed. Or they thought they had it all figured out -- until they experienced life on the left coast. It's part fantasy -- nights with young Hollywood A-listers, Rodeo shopping, Malibu... and part honest reality as the girls are forced to confront options they never even considered and make big life changing decisions. Super fast and fun filled, but also meaningful. Perfect combination for YA!Tags : Amazon.com: Hollywood Hills (9780439792820): Aimee Friedman: Books,Aimee Friedman,Hollywood Hills,Scholastic Paperbacks,0439792827,Social Themes - Dating & Sex,Social Themes - Friendship,California;Fiction.,Dating (Social customs);Fiction.,Friendship;Fiction.,Children's Books - Young Adult Fiction,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 10-12),Dating (Social customs),Fiction,Friendship,JUVENILE FICTION Social Themes Dating & Relationships,JUVENILE FICTION Social Themes Friendship,Social Issues - Adolescence,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,Young Adult Fiction Social Themes Dating & Sex,Young Adult Fiction Social Themes Friendship
Hollywood Hills Aimee Friedman Books Reviews
I love the characters, thats why it was impossible to put down! Maybe, thats why I have read 54 books since June 1, 2008.
Jersey girls Alexa St. Laurent and Holly Jacobson head to Hollywood to attend celebrity Margaux Eklundstrom's wedding. They are overjoyed to find that they will be staying in Margaux's hot brother's guest house and that they will be able to get out of a family camping trip a week before graduation.
Once in paradise, things don't go so smoothly. Holly struggles to find a college that she and her boyfriend can both attend, but will this end their relationship for good? Meanwhile, Alexa seems to be having the time of her life with Margaux's brother, Jonah. Soon, though, she realizes that she may not really be in love with Jonah Eklundstrom, but will she regret her decision?
When the girls miss their flight back to New Jersey, they are forced to take a later flight--but will they make it back in time? Or will they miss their high school graduation?
I think you should read this book because once you pick it up, you can't put it down! I give it 5 stars!

When I was walking through the library a couple of months ago, something on the shelf caught my eye. It was Hollywood Hills by Aimee Friedman. This book, even though it may seem so unrealistic, made me think that maybe I too could be invited to California to attend a celebrity wedding. This book is the third and final in the series. The other two books are South Beach and French Kiss. This book is a must read.
Alexa St. Laurent and Holly Jacobson are best friends. They do almost everything together, and the two of them make the perfect team. Alexa's rich lifestyle and carefree mentality make for the best times while Holly's down to earth personality and hesitant mentality keep them safe. The girls are both at Alexa's rich mother's house for a party when Alexa gets the invitation of a lifetime. Margaux Eklundstrom, the most outrageous Hollywood actress, has invited the two girls to her wedding in L.A. Alexa convinces hesitant Holly to pick up everything and go to L.A. the next morning. Neither of them knows how L.A. is going to play out, but they both have a strange feeling that the city of beautiful people will have a long lasting effect.
There are many different books and movies that are identical to Hollywood Hills. One of these movies is called Under the Tuscan Sun. This movie is about a woman who travels to Italy looking for love. She finds different guys that she likes and has to decide to stay in Italy with the guy she loves or go back to her old home. This movie is a lot like Hollywood Hills because there are a lot of different guys and she has to make a decision about whether or not she stays or goes home.
One of the most evident literary elements is characterization. At the beginning of the story, Alexa is an arrogant, airheaded teen. Through most of the story this is how she is portrayed. As the story grows, new things are found out about Alexa. She is in love with photography and she turns out to be a little bit of an artist type instead of just a fashion queen. Holly is a sporty, shy teenage girl. She is constantly hesitant about everything. L.A. is definitely not her city. Then, she ends up changing completely. She becomes much more extrovert and instantaneous. Both of them change a lot through out this story.
This book has a ton of description. In one part Alexa is standing on the beach "her heart squeezing as she st[ands] barefoot on the pearl white Malibu beach, her sun streaked hair whipping in the wind" (Friedman 194). This is just an example of some of the detail that is in this book. The detail really makes the book come alive. I can imagine every little thing in this book due to the amazing detail. The detail really adds to the story.
This book is probably exactly like one would imagine. Two girls go to a city that they have never been to and meet a million adorable guys and everyone falls in love. This book is probably much more popular in the teenage girl area. This is because of all of the love and drama that ensues in this book. Even though this book seems to be somewhat harmless, it does have some questionable areas. There is some sex and sexually related topics. There is also a lot of cussing. Due to these things, I would recommend this book for ages thirteen and up. This age may change depending on one's parents or one's own decision on what is appropriate for certain ages. Some people may think that it is ok for younger children to read things like this and others may think that a child shouldn't read this type of book until they are eighteen. It all depends on one's own beliefs.
There are many books that are a lot like this one. The idea isn't the most original idea out there. This book is pretty much the stereotypical teenage girl book. It is predictable; however, there are little twists here and there that are not expected. The twists are what help to make the book exciting and interesting. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the detail in this book is amazing. Even though at some times it may seem over done, the extra detail added into the book really brings it alive. This book is a must read for anyone who just wants some entertainment.
It's the week before high school graduation, and Alexa St. Laurent has scored two invitations to the hottest event of the year Margaux Eklundstrom's wedding. There's no doubt who she's inviting to come with her her best friend Holly Jacobson. Neither girl can wait to get to Los Angeles, Alexa because she wants to hang with celebrities and Holly because she's impatient to leave behind her parents' and boyfriend's expectations. But L.A. turns out to be different than each girl expected. With so many choices ahead of them and so many opportunities for having fun, there's only one thing for sure L.A. could change everything.
The latest and last of Alexa and Holly's exciting vacations, Hollywood Hills is certainly the sweetest and most memorable. It's not necessary to have read the story's prequels, South Beach and French Kiss, to understand Hollywood Hills; in fact, this was the case the first time I read this book. However, the background is a plus, particularly because it details the development of Alexa and Holly's current relationship. By now, their friendship is pretty much rock solid, and the girls rely on each other for fashion advice and moral support. Alexa's and Holly's characters don't mature much through the course of this book, because each girl has more or less established who she is before this story even started, so most of the book is plain and simple guilty pleasure. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, and Friedman does a wonderful job of making this story about true friendship and love amidst the glitz and fake glamour or Hollywood. This is a very cute and satisfying read perfect for summer.
Fans of South Beach and French Kiss, both by Aimee Friedman, will enjoy Hollywood Hills, as will readers who liked Summer Boys and Summer Girls, both by Hailey Abbott.
I loved this book. It was really breathtaking because i never knew what was going to happen next and when it did I never knew that was coming
